1st Division Manager
Title Screen
Codemasters 1993
Genre: Sport
Rating: 4/6
Language: English
Licence: Commercial
System: C64
Weee...yeah, I know I know, I'm a Championship Manager addict, too :) but since there's no CM for a C64, we'll have to use something like this, eh?
1st Division Manager is one of the few fairly good (although quite primitive) and realistic (again, although quite primitive) Commodore64 footie management games. Boosting a nice matchview engine (we don't have player animations in Champan :)), 1st Division Manager is an option for those who want to make a carreer out of this.

A Journey into Xanth
Title Screen
Neil Sorenson 1993
Genre: Adventure
Rating: 4/6
Language: English
Licence: Freeware
System: PC
This is a must for every Xanth-Fan! I always loved the great books of Piers Anthony and searched hard for any computer-games based on it. Long before I was able to get my hands on the graphical adventure I found this game (and lost it when my harddisk crashed).

Aces Over Europe
Title Screen
Dynamix 1993
Genre: Simulation
Rating: 5/6
Language: English
Licence: Commercial
System: PC
That 'Aces over Europe' is kind of a sequel to 'Aces of the Pacific' becomes obvious at first sight. Graphfically nothing has changed, just some more sounds have been added; each plane has its own engine noise now. But nevertheless it's better than 'AotP' because most of its minor flaws have been removed.

Alien Legacy
Title Screen
Ybarra Productions / Sierra 1993
Genre: Adventure, Strategy
Rating: 5/6
Language: English
Licence: Commercial
System: PC
The seedship Calypso arrives to the Beta Solaris system, where the colonists of the more advanced Tantalus seedship are awaiting. Only that they are not there, just leftovers of their colonies spreading around all the planets and moons, mixed with hints and references to a hidden danger.

Ambush at Sorinor
Title Screen
Mindcraft 1993
Genre: Strategy
Rating: 5/6
Language: English
Licence: Commercial
System: PC
Siege & Ambush At Sorinor & Walls Of Rome: A series of games very similar to each other. The screenshots look almost identical. And all the games are quite similar in fact They're all pioneers of the RTS genre. That means much action is in them. But in contrast to current titles, the strategy- component is stressed. This becomes clear when you discover that you can give orders to your army when the game is paused.

Ancients I: Death Watch
Title Screen
Farrware 1993
Genre: RPG
Rating: 3/6
Language: English
Licence: Shareware
System: PC
It is very rare to find a shareware first-person roleplaying game. Ancients I: Death Watch is just that. Clearly copied from Bard's Tale with a few minor improvements and a much weaker story, Ancients is a second-tier game at best, but still interesting and entertaining enough to keep you playing for a few days. The game is designed in first person, where a group of four adventurers explores a city and various dungeons that are accessible from the houses. Featuring graphics comparable with the first Bard's Tale, mapping the city is quite difficult, and it does not get much better in the dungeons.

Ancients II: Approaching Evil
Title Screen
Farrware 1993
Genre: RPG
Rating: 2/6
Language: English
Licence: Shareware
System: PC
It is very unusual for a relatively unsuccessful game like Ancients I to have a sequel. Ancients II: Approaching Evil simply increases the scope of the original game, but offers little else.

Arnie 2
Title Screen
Zeppelin Games 1993
Genre: Action
Rating: 3/6
Language: English
Licence: Commercial
System: PC
Arnie 2 is an isometric arcade Commando clone.

PLOT
You are required to complete four separate missions. The four levels are: chemical weapons factory, airbase, naval base, and finally a jungle POW camp rescue mission.

Backstage
Title Screen
Art Department 1993
Genre: Adventure
Rating: 3/6
Language: Deutsch
Licence: Freeware
System: Amiga
A local radio station is holding a competition: answer five questions about (male) rockstar 'Alex X. Pose' (for the younger readers: the singer of a then popular band called Guns 'n' roses was called 'Axl Rose') to win a romantic candlelightdinner with him. Our (male) hero is keen to be the chosen one. Yes... you'd better ignore the homoerotic elements of this story. Anyway, let's just say our protagonist is a huge fan, ok?

Batman Returns
Title Screen
Konami 1993
Genre: Action
Rating: 2.5/6
Language: English
Licence: Commercial
System: SNES
A common day in Gotham City: Batman puts on his chicle coat, and with his Batmobile he drives to the place of action. Through the slits of his ridiculous mask, he sees the unjustness. Good citizens are being hindered to do their Christmas shopping. A gang of clowns prevents a fluent and free enterprise and causes a setting that reminds of an oriental bazaar.
