Anno 1602
Title Screen
Max Design / Sunflowers 1998
Genre: Strategy
Rating: 3.5/6
Language: Deutsch
Licence: Commercial
System: PC
[Tapuak] Anno 1602 is a classic city building sim. You're founding a settlement in a world of islands, and develop it by providing space to live and necessary goods to the citizens. In mission mode, you have to fulfill single tasks, but in free play, it's your final goal to beat your opponents from the surrounding cities to achieve sovereign rule over the islands. At the beginning, you choose a appropriate island to found your first settlement. Right from the start, you have to deliver basic goods to your people.

Batman Returns
Title Screen
Konami 1993
Genre: Action
Rating: 2/6
Language: English
Licence: Commercial
System: SNES
A common day in Gotham City: Batman puts on his chicle coat, and with his Batmobile he drives to the place of action. Through the slits of his ridiculous mask, he sees the unjustness. Good citizens are being hindered to do their Christmas shopping. A gang of clowns prevents a fluent and free enterprise and causes a setting that reminds of an oriental bazaar.

Biker Mice From Mars
Title Screen
Konami 1994
Genre: Action
Rating: 4/6
Language: English
Licence: Commercial
System: SNES
Concerning its concept, "Biker Mice From Mars" straightfowardly had the successful classic "Rock'n'Roll Racing" in mind. Unlike the original, you drive motor cycles and other unorthodox vehicles around more or less well-built tracks here. Although the game produced by Konami labels itself as being "powered by Snickers", you permanently suppose that the programmers wanted to make fun of this ridiculous piece of chocolate-peanut-mush.

Chaos Engine
Title Screen
Bitmap Brothers 1993
Genre: Action
Rating: 5/6
Language: English
Licence: Commercial
System: Amiga, PC
Like in most games the story of "Chaos Engine" is not really original: A "Baron" invents a machine in his experiments that "although primitive" becomes more and more powerful and finally changes all creatures in its surroundings to evil monsters.

Descent
Title Screen
Parallax Software 1994
Genre: Action, Simulation
Rating: 5/6
Language: English
Licence: Shareware
System: PC
"3D shooters" are embarassing in general, this typical German designation alone gets on ones nerves fast. In combination with that pimply teenager who murders at home while mummy is gone shopping, these accumulations of appropriate cliches become almost unplayable.

Desperabis
Title Screen
Florian Born 2000
Genre: Adventure, Action
Rating: 5/6
Language: Deutsch
Licence: Freeware
System: PC
As Kiarthan, a medieval lad with an almost finished schooling in magic, you creep into a wizard's castle in order to find a mysterious crystal which is supposed to heal your lady's disease.

Dunkle Schatten
Title Screen
Art Department 1994
Genre: Adventure
Rating: 3/6
Language: Deutsch
Licence: Freeware
System: PC
"Dunkle Schatten" (Dark Shadows) was released during the "Fairständnis" campaign of the German Ministries of Inner Affairs in 1994. The slogan was "respect human rights - against racial hatred", the development was executed by Art Department, a company well known for its advertising games at that time.

Geheimprojekt DMSO
Title Screen
Art Department 1993
Genre: Adventure, Puzzle
Rating: 2.5/6
Language: Deutsch
Licence: Freeware
System: PC
[Mr Creosote] "Geheimprojekt DMSO" is an Art Department graphic adventure, promoting the rheumatism medicaments by the company Merckle GmbH. Professor Scheiffele of the university of Ulm, who had been working in corresponding product research, has vanished. Right before that happened, he called his nephew Jack Bene for help via telegram. Now it's his task to find the professor and uncover the background of his disappearance.

Goof Troop
Title Screen
Capcom 1993
Genre: Puzzle
Rating: 4/6
Language: English
Licence: Commercial
System: SNES
It's about time to offer our younger visitors something with educational value. I'll do it with 'Goof Troop' and I also admit that I played it although I?m not 8 any more (didn't you guess that?). How embarassing, but I'll try hard to justify it with this test.
