This review is part of The Review Roundup - Round 1: Games Related to the End of the World
Norse mythology has its very specific version of how the world is going to end. The world will fall into a deadly winter, and all kinds of natural catastrophes will occur. Monsters will rise from the depth in which they hid. The monsters will ally with the giants, facing the gods and heroes. In this final battle between good and evil, everybody will perish - including the chief god Odin.

Suddenly the mountain where you, along your tribe, lived exploded. Lava and stones covered the village, killing the chief and his best hunters, and creating a wasteland where the village was. The elders have chosen to find the home of the ancestors, and you will have to guide them through one of the six paths to your objective. But the ways are dangerous and a bad chief isn't forgiven.
As I write this review/manual I assume you know nothing at all about the game. That's because anyone who has ever played The Lost Vikings will never forget it and won't need a manual or a review to get started again.

The early 90s made the previously hardcore genre of hex-based wargames accessable to a much broader audience. The rules got simpler, the controls easier and the graphics less cryptic. The prime example of this trend is of course Battle Isle by Blue Byte. To a lesser extent, The Perfect General contributed there, too.

Your rich aunt has just died and you are her heir! Overpowered by joy, you go out to tell off your boss. But then you notice a silly sidenote in the testament: You are only allowed to spend the money on building Theme Parks, and the profits can only be spent on additional parks. So you give in to your fate (you can't go back to your old job anyway after what you've done to your former boss) and start planning!

'Tower' is indeed a very different simulation. Not many games in the past gave you the opportunity to be an air traffic controller. This is a very demanding profession as you are responsible for the lives of hundreds and thousands of passengers and one false decision could have catastrophic consequences.

The game begins with the founding of your company. You choose a fitting portrait, the company colour and of course the name. Then it immediately starts with your first funds. Similar to Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon, in which you could build tracks for your trains. In Transport Tycoon, you're not limited to railroad tracks for your iron horses. On the random map which is full of cities and factories, you can build a depot and bus stops, to transport citizens to the next town, for example. Alternatively, you can create a system of railway tracks through all cities with which you can not only transport people, but also goods like mail. For example, you can build a station near a forest and another next to a sawmill. Connect the stations and you can transport raw logs to the mill, which can be very profitable. In addition, you can conquer the skies with your planes or and waves of the sea with your boats. Either you're just transporting passengers, or you buy fitting vehicles for other goods. That decision is up tot he player.
