Die Fugger 2
Title Screen
Sunflowers 1996
Genre: Strategy
Rating: 4/6
Language: Deutsch
Licence: Commercial
System: PC
Money and political power are often closely related. The family referenced in the title is one of the best known historical examples of this phenomenon. The members of that family don't actually appear in the game, though. It takes place a few levels below that instead. On a regional level, i.e. a member state of the former 'Holy Roman Empire', the player tries to gain political influence - just like the big idols.

Flug 714 nach Sydney
Title Screen
Mr Creosote 1996
Genre: Adventure
Rating: 0/6
Language: Deutsch
Licence: Freeware
System: PC
My second text adventure. 'Flight 714 to Sydney' is a Tintin comic, and the game follows it pretty closely... until the second half which is pretty much skipped completely, because I didn't like all that alien stuff.

Geh Aufs Ganze
Title Screen
Mr Creosote 1996
Genre: Puzzle, Strategy
Rating: 0/6
Language: Deutsch
Licence: Freeware
System: PC
Computer version of a well-known (and extremely stupid) TV show. What I'm especially proud of is the how the 'studio audience' is trying to influence you ;)

Written in Quick Basic 4.5.

Indiana Jones and his Desktop Adventures
Title Screen
Lucas Arts 1996
Genre: Adventure, Action
Rating: 3/6
Language: English, Deutsch
Licence: Commercial
System: PC
The daily life of Dr. Henry Jones Jr. Somewhere in Central America, he's carrying out his archeological duties. It all starts with his colleague Marcus Brody giving him his latest assignment. It usually concerns finding an artifact before a competing archeologist does, freeing someone from the clutches of the nazis or something similar. The best thing about it: every time you start the game, you get a different adventure to play. Or at least that's what the advertisement says.

Strife
Title Screen
Velocity 1996
Genre: Action, RPG
Rating: 4/6
Language: English
Licence: Commercial
System: PC
Shooters have a tendency to lack story or at least a bit of depth, consisting in nothing more than pressing a button and moving forward. Yet a few like this one shine and reach a higher mark than the many which try only to be a copy of the famed game from where Strife takes its engine, Doom.

Tomb Raider
Title Screen
Core Design / Eidos 1996
Genre: Adventure, Puzzle
Rating: 5/6
Language: English, Français, Deutsch
Licence: Commercial
System: PC
It may be one of the less clever ideas I've had, but I'm gonna try and write up Tomb Raider. The truly beautiful people among us (and I don't mean here at TGOD) often suffer from a defeatist, or fatalist streak in their contemporaries, in the sense that they are rarely approached in a casual manner, due to the assumption that the beauty in question must have lots of beautiful friends already, therefore rendering the unsolicited attentions of the common plebe superfluous. Add a touch of fear of being rebuffed or ridiculed, and presto: Dr Oetker's Instant Loneliness Sour Whip.

Tower
Title Screen
BAO Ltd. 1996
Genre: Simulation, Strategy
Rating: 4/6
Language: English
Licence: Commercial
System: PC
'Tower' is indeed a very different simulation. Not many games in the past gave you the opportunity to be an air traffic controller. This is a very demanding profession as you are responsible for the lives of hundreds and thousands of passengers and one false decision could have catastrophic consequences.

Z
Title Screen
Bitmap Brothers 1996
Genre: Strategy
Rating: 6/6
Language: English
Licence: Commercial
System: PC
Is it just a cheap "Command&Conquer" clone or a game with new ideas? Both is right because 'Z' is obviously a part of the past wave of real-time strategy games but it is also far better than similar games.
