I have to admit that I'm preoccupied. In the good old Amiga times I haven?t played any game more than this one. After discovering it again I was instantly caught by its old magic.
The land of Trazere is swept by the waves of a mighty evil's dreams which flood the country. By hacking through dungeons the 4 heroes gather experience and get ever closer to their goal...

"There are cases when you design something that looks good on paper and there's only one small part of it that's fun. You have to focus on that and throw the rest away." Brent Iverson, the designer, chief programmer behind LHX and the author of these words did just that. He created a flight simulator that's pure joy to play: not too much of an arcade, which would disenchant less action-prone people, and not too much of a simulation, which would leave 95% of the gaming population frowning. LHX is simply the right blend of arcade, simulation and pure fun.

'Little Big Adventure' is probably a typical game of the widely spread 'action-adventure' genre. First a story which carries the game to satisfy the adventure part: The inhabitants of the fictional planet Twinsun suffer from the terror regime of the tyrant FunFrock. He has the power to produce clones which control and suppress the people with Big-Brother-like methods. One of the victims is Twinsen, who is in search for a magical legend of the planet to overthrow FunFrock and liberate the poor people. This rebel rolemodel is up to the player so he can fully live up to his insurgence phantasies. For complete disaster Twinsens wife gets kidnapped which brings up even more urge for revenge and activates protective instincts.

As one can suppose from the title (which means "Livingstone I presume"), you are exploring Africa in search of doctor Livingstone. A thing that consists in jumping through platforms, avoiding enemies and traps, and using your set of tools.

You like the concept, but medieval England is getting a bit tiring? Then head over to medieval Japan! This is how Lords of the Rising Sun is best described. Oh, you don't have a clue what I'm talking about? Then you probably haven't played Defender of the Crown by the same company! Stop reading here and sit in the corner!

Gremlin 1990

This is the first part of a series many people consider as a classic. As you can see from my rating, I don't agree with that. To describe Lotus, just one word is needed: boring!
Nevertheless, its historical value is out of question! It's the ancestor of all the 'modern' action racers, e.g. the Need for Speed- or Screamer-games. And what's even more important (and interesting!) is the fact, that Lotus is almost identical to those newer ones!

Mad TV's success virtually begged for a sequel. Rainbow Arts announced Mad Burger, a fast-food chain simulator. Ralph Stock, designer of the first part, had left the company, though, and he was working in Mad News which was published by Ikarion. Mad Burger never made it, but two years later, Mad TV 2 (the only 'official' sequel) appeared - and it sucked. This review is about Mad News, however. The game which should probably be called the only rightful successor of the original game.

Meta robot KLP-2 from Quazatron is back: This time, the reactors of eight satellites have to be shut down. Of course, these satellites are full of robots to destroy as well.

KLP-2 moves (or rather floats) over the three-dimensional platforms which now have a fixed distinction into screens (circumventing the problem of the rather slow scrolling). Again, it's all looking and moving very smoothly - technically, this is yet another step forward from the already high standard the predecessor set.

So, the evolving of this review was a bit odd. I had this game up at my old site The Keep and when I was going through the games at that site to see which ones might be worth being transferred over to The Good Old Days I came across this one. The review of it wasn't even short, so technically I could have just packed things up and sent them over to Mr Creosote. But then I decided that the screenshots weren't so great and I'd better make some new ones. Well well... I then started the game and tried to find my way around it.
