Do you also sometimes have these incredibly positive memories about a game? Always thinking back how great it was and how you would love to play it again? Doesn't happen at all to me for the simple reason I still have all my games and keep playing them constantly - no misleading emotions.

Warlock: The Avenger
Title Screen
Millenium 1991
Genre: Action
Rating: 4/6
Language: English
Licence: Commercial
System: Amiga
Druid in its third round. War rages again in Belorn - how original. Lone magician (this time not called 'druid', but 'warlock') battles his way through and ends the threat.

After the relatively fresh and original Enlightenment, Warlock is a complete turn towards the original again. No more complicated spell management and also no non-linear levels anymore. In fact, the best description is this: New levels for the original Druid.

Warlords (*)
Title Screen
Atari 1981
Genre: Action
Rating: 5/6
Language: -
Licence: Commercial
System: Atari 2600
Warlords is very basic in gameplay, but is fun and fast action, and also allows for a certain level of strategy. In Warlords, you have four players (Always 4. If you have less than 4 human players, the rest will be computer controlled), and each player has a warlord, a castle, and a shield. This game uses the paddles instead of the joysticks. What you have to do is use your shield to deflect the ball away from your castle & warlord, while simultaneously trying to direct it -at- your opponents' castles & warlords.

Webwarp
Title Screen
MB 1982
Genre: Action
Rating: 4/6
Language: English
Licence: Commercial
System: Vectrex
Definitely the Vectrex game with the best graphics I have played so far. It even has music, as well as sound effects!

You are an intergalactic animal collector. You are trying to collect all 20 species of creatures, all the while avoiding all those nasty alien star-shaped drones and , of course, the dragon that will attempt to shoot you with a fireball if you miss too often. Once you have captured a creature (does this sound like Pokemon? It sure isn't.) you still have to find the way out of the intergalactic webspace you're trapped in and take it to your trophy room (great animation).

Wetten Dass..?
Title Screen
PCSL Software 1991
Genre: Puzzle, Action
Rating: 1/6
Language: Deutsch
Licence: Commercial
System: Amiga
Warning: Even though I normally try to treat both language versions of the site equally, there are situations in which this is impossible. This review is such an example. This English review will be a boring read to everyone who isn't familiar with German television, because it mostly consist of references to the popular TV show which the game is based on. You'll still learn something about the game, but I won't promise it'll amuse you much.

To us Europeans, American Football is just a big slaughter anyway. So when we play Brutal Sports Football, we don't even notice much of a difference to what's offered in the NFL. Who cares if a few weapons have been added? Don't those suits make living weapons out of the players anyway (dramatic pause...)?

Wild Streets
Title Screen
Titus 1989
Genre: Action
Rating: 3/6
Language: English
Licence: Commercial
System: Amiga
What a mediocre game! Walking from left to right and beating up evil guys. There's also some kind of 'story' behind it, but I have to confess I don't know it exactly. When playing it again for the review, I couldn't find the intro, no matter how hard I tried!

World Darts
Title Screen
1001 Limited 1987
Genre: Sport, Action
Rating: 3/6
Language: English

System: PC
Darts... ever heard of that? Those pointy thingies you throw at that round thingy hanging on the wall? Yeah right - that's it. This is Darts... 501 to be precise. The rules of it are simple - the points you score are subtracted from 501 till you reach 0. However you got to reach this by hitting a "double" field. Bit of mathematics involved here. ;) The player first reaching 0 wins (of course). Easy concept and great to be played in a pub. Well - and also on a computer. I found the game to be best playable with a joystick - it's a lot of fun then. If you want to try your luck with the keyboard go ahead. It's a lot more difficult, but still playable. The controls rely on a system I'd like to call 'system of the unsure hand troubled by gravity' - basically you give the hand holding the dart a push to one side and it always goes a little too far, which is by concept. After a while you get the hang of it though and learn to calculate those motions.

World Karate Championship
Title Screen
System Three Software / Epyx 1986
Genre: Action, Sport
Rating: 3/6
Language: English

System: C64
A well-known classic from the arcade from 1986. Business as usual: Fight against your opponents who become more stronger from round to round and try to collect as many point as possible...

You start as Karateka with the white belt - you can choose Egypt or Australia. It does not matter at all because the starting location has no influence on the game itself. After 3 rounds of fighting you either go to New York or to Rio de Janeiro - and that already was the little excursion because after round no. 3 the background graphic does not change any more. At least as far as I could play...

Worms
Title Screen
Team17 1995
Genre: Action
Rating: 5/6
Language: English
Licence: Commercial
System: PC
Now, this is quite a famous game, and unlike some it’s popular with a reason. You get the lemmings, give them weapons (after changing the little suicidal rodents to worms) and you get an action game with plenty of explosions and collateral damage.
