That's pretty much exact... I have one of these computers from a 'big store', and the tower is so mini that I can't even add a second hard disk without leaving it open, and the cable is so short that if I want to connect another hard disk, I have to put it on some kind of riser, eg. a pile of cd-boxes... Not exactly a comfortable way of working.

It certainly is a matter of taste, but it is also a fact that most people do consider computers ugly and would rather hide them in some backroom than 'displaying' them openly.

The main reason why people have midi or mini towers is something else however: the big shops decided to offer those, and most customers don't care - they just take the standard models offered in the shop's flyer.

Oh well, I guess it's a matter of taste... I actually like how my pc looks (especially with half the casing open so that I can constantly monitor the inside if I want ) although I may paint it black 'n blue in the near future...

It's a space issue: how are people supposed to put these huge towers? Many standard desks have extra space for a midi tower nowadays, fewer for big towers. In addition, computers are quite ugly, the smaller, the better for the room they're in...

Man, that syre is some funny (and at the sane time very, very sad) stuff there... It makes me thankfull that my reasoning-capabilities exceed those of your average goldfish...

On the Tower-side, I never understood why people buy those rediculious small towers... I bought the largest size tower I could find when I bought this pc and I still have barely enough space... Still have to reorganise my cables so that I can reconnect my disk-drive...

I just remembered one time I was in this guy's basement and he had a lot of older parts for computers and I found this 5 and a quater. I was looking at it and I noticed an AOL cd jammed into.

It's almost scary the relationship between AOL and dumb things.



Tell me about it! My parents computer is this hewlett packard and we got a voodoo2 just so we could intialize 3d for my sisters copy of The Sims. We had to slightly bend the card just to get it in there... it was horrible! That computer is now so jam packed with cards and drives it needs to be shot to be put out of it's misery. Stupid towers. On the other hand the desktops sometimes you have to remove a bunch of stuff just to get something in there if it is constructed badly.

Or what about the credit cards? "Damn, the computer confiscated it, I will have to go to my bank to get a new one tomorrow" - and then the second one disappeared, too

Actually, especially the 'multiple identical directories' thingies reminded me of that! It shows how few people actually know anything about the basic structure of a computer, when a program isn't available via desktop icon, they just re-install it.

As for the hardware side, I agree. Especially since 'midi towers' and 'mini towers' got so popular, it's always a tough job to squeeze anything in there! On the other hand, installing my first PC sound card into a 386 desktop case was even harder...

'Stupid Computer Tricks' is a play off a TV persons vareity show where he shows 'Stupid Human Tricks' like standing on a basketball while playing an accordian and harmonica.

This page really reminds me that some people really ARE foreign to computers, except that AOL multiple folder shot. I believe AOL does that by itself because back in the day when my family had it, 5.0 multiplied to about 4 different copies. That's about when we got rid of the thing.

And the hardware modifications, how hard is it really to install things into a computer. Seriously.
