Added cellpadding as requested (did I say I'd do it 'tonight' when it first came up? ;)).

Following the agenda of consistency, I made the background colours of the forum and thread listings alternating, too. Better, worse?

Another thing: You could add some cellpadding to the threads (left of the Name/Avatar/Status column and right of the main text of a post).
Yes, if I add another table. It's set to zero at the moment because of the title bars which look a lot better without cellpadding. Will try it out tonight.

Because it is extremely distracting to the eye and since a forum is all about reading, that's fatal.

Fixed the posting page.

Because of dl time or some other reason? The bg pattern I made is only a little over 1k, and will have almost no effect on loading time. (Hell, most of the avatars are 20k+.)

I think the darker color would be best for the forum/thread lists.

I take it the thread view while posting uses a different template than the normal thread view? I just noticed that the light tables on the posting page are still the same color as the page background. Doesn't really matter, but it is a curiosity.

You may be able to convince me of a lot - but not of a background image! No way!

As for the background of the forum list and thread list, I think an alternating one would look really silly. So it's just one of the two misc background colours I guess...

1) Definitely better
2) I agree
3) How about a bg image for the page background, I've attached a pseudo-silver one. I'm thinking maybe silver pattern bg for the pages, wood pattern for the sections that are currently yellow, and light~medium grey for the msg tables. (Sort of like 70's~80's stereo equipment.)

So what about this one? Had to make the gobal background colour a bit lighter in order to get some colour 'in between'. Personally, I think now that the thread pages are fully 'backgrounded' (they originally were completely on the normal background), the other pages (topic listing, forum listing,...) would have to be changed in order to fit this. What do you think?

I agree with Cypherswipe; it would look better if the posts had a different background than the one outside the message table. Either a different background or a simple line - both would do the job.

We could do without borders if the color of the light tables was different than the page color, but I think we need something to contain the messages, right now the light tables look like they're ready to spill all over the floor. :-
I think it might be best to darken the page color, right now it looks ....blank. It looks like the infamous 'under construction' pages (especially at the top, the spam logo looks like it's just floating around). I think either darking the page color or adding a decorative line to tie the spam logo on the left with the 'back to' links on the right would be a big improvement.

Now we're getting somewhere :) I actually didn't use any table borders on purpose since it looks really cluttered with them - as can be seen in basically every forum. But that's of course a matter of personal taste, if the others could say something about it?

I do tend to take things more seriously than I probably should, but anyway....

The current style wouldn't be too bad if it had table borders (right now it looks very plain, almost like those crappy threaded style boards){edit: alternatively, change the color of either the light alternating table or the page background so that they aren't the same, the dark alternating table looks ok, but with the light one being the same color as the page....}, and if the text was darker or bolder (right now it blends too much with the background).
As long as we stay away from large ammts of white, and using that hideous shade of gray/purple that VB uses, I won't have any major complaints about the style. (Many minor ones, but no major ones. :p )

Again: you are taking this way too seriously! You're talking as if you'll die or something if the board doesn't look exactly like you want it. The same seems to be valid for the regulars of your forum. Lighten up a bit - it's incredibly easy to come up with something nobody considers ugly. I'm not talking about something everybody loves. But that's not something I'm even trying to achieve.

No. I already told you before.

My first question about VB styles was whether or not they could be directly imported, this question was about whether they could be adapted.

As afr as finding something for everyone to agree on, I have my own board and am an admin at another, and there has never been a single theme that everyone could agree on. Perfect example is right in front of you, you (and most of us) like the old wooden look for this board, but ND wants something more like the current style.

Yes, it is that hard to find something everyone can agree on, nearly impossible in fact.
I said exactly the opposite.

No. I already told you before.

Why not just suggest colours for the different fields you see here? It's simple really.

Same as for 'vb': No.

Open your eyes and you'll see everything. And if you want, you can add fields to your suggestion. It's not as if this was really 'fixed' in any way like all the other scripts you mentioned are.

As far as styles: What about converting VB themes? And the big question, How can we make a template to send you? Can you use style from some other forum such as ikonboard or phorum (I think that's the right name), or just a css stylesheet? Bottomline, how do we know exactly what features you need colors for?
