When I used an old version of winace to try to open a newer .rar file one time, it told me that the file was corrupt or incomplete. Decompression progs give wierd errors.

well
it works now
Cypherswipe and Mr Creosote were right. ;)
the file was incomplete.
what I'm surprised of is that winrar interpreted it as an unknown compression method, and the file sizes were almost the same (1.78 - 1.87)
anyway thanks guys :)

Hey d, did you ever try re-downloading the file? It sounds like your original download was incomplete.

Hmm... that is strange. I tried it, and the archive seemed to work fine for me. To be absolutely sure, I re-packed it and uploaded it again. Could you try downloading it once more?

I tried what you suggested creosote but got the same error message about unknown method with lha (the program) too.
it decompressed some files but the majority is still absent. could the problem be in the file itself?
if it is then maybe you should check it mr creosote its the amiga version of "sixth sense investigations"

I've been unpacking lhas with Winrar since the day I installed it.

Only "lzx" is pretty difficult to extract. AFAIK there's no way to extract these with a windows application so I'm using an old dos program for lzx files.

LHA and LZH are the same compression algorithm, just named differently.

Winrar does not support lha files, only lzh ones.

Quote:
WinRAR provides complete support for RAR and ZIP archives and is able to unpack CAB, ARJ, LZH, TAR, GZ, ACE, UUE, BZ2, JAR, ISO archives.

Powerarchiver, winace, and stuffit expander all support both lha and lzh files.

Powerarchiver 2002 supports the LHA format, I don't know how well though (I've never seen a file that used LHA).

Well winrar 3.0 is old and won't extract 3.20 rar archives either. Winrar natively supports lha so there's no need to use a seperate program but for amiga, search for "lha.run" in aminet. "Lha" will give zillions of results!

Some programs seem to extract lhas but screw it, like Windows Commander. Stay away from that.

LHA is a compression format. The best program to extract these files is LHA (surprise, surprise) which I'm pretty sure you can integrate into WinRAR or WinZIP's GUI. In case you're talking about archives for the Amiga, I recommend you simply get the LHA executable from Aminet and put it in your path.

simple question:
how do you open an archive with a .lha extension?
(best program to do it?)
I have winrar 3.0 and winzip 8.0
I can view it with winrar but have problems extracting (something about unknown compression method)
