Member Retired Gumby Posts: 740 | Between mario bros and giana sisters, Super Mario Bros on the famicom disc system was the original (by about 2yrs), then came giana sisters on c64, then Super Mario Land on gameboy. If you look at the screenshots of giana sisters for c64 and for amiga at vgmuseum.com, you'll see that they are clearly ripoffs of world 1 and world 2 of super mario bros on nes/famicom. The backgrounds and props are nearly identical except for the colors, the only real difference is the character and the monsters. ----- At the end of the day, you're left with a bent fork & a pissed off rhino. |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 964 | Right, I don't mean that Giana Sisters is the first game of its kind. There are probably many similar games that are older. But one thing is sure: It's not stolen from Super Mario Land. |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11098 | Welcome What you're referring to is probably this (from Tapuak's review of Super Mario Land): Quote: The game's concept is not, like many people wrongly presumed, something new. Even though the genre of "jump'n'run" has already been perfected by Giana Sisters for the C 64, Nintendo managed to make this department its figurehead, while permanently struggling with Sega. Hence, after Super Mario Bros. (NES), an exclusive Game Boy series with the same protagonist began. While this can probably be misunderstood in some ways, I don't see any wrong facts in it. Giana Sisters is older than Super Mario Land, thus SML isn't a new concept. In regards of 'inventing the genre', it doesn't say GS did that; it has just perfected it. That's a subjective view, however it is one I agree with. The case in front of the courts you're talking about most likely wasn't about SML, but Super Mario Bros on the NES, but that's just a wild guess. ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Member Baby Gumby Posts: 2 | ;) Your opinion about giana sisters is false. the concern nintendo, has fighted against the producers of "Giana Sisters", nintendo thinks "giana sisters" is stolen from "Mario Land". in the end "giana sisters" it was no more available to buy. sry about this terrible english. i hope the world will understand. c ya saesh |
