Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11097 | I finally upgraded to Firefox 0.8 today, and after copying over my bookmarks and cookies (new profile directory...), I must say I'm fully satisfied with this release so far. Even the softlink-bug has been fixed ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 964 | After some more testing, it's still good, but there's one problem: Sometimes, when I enter an URL, it takes some seconds until the browser actually tries to connect to the website. It's not because of my connection as this never happened with older browser versions... Edited by Tapuak at 23:14 on February, 19th 2004 |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11097 | I've just installed Mozilla Thunderbird 0.5, and to be honest, I can't notice the slightest difference to 0.4. Tuss: The detailed bug description is on the page I linked to. To make it short: Firebird is crashing when you select a directory which is actually a softlink to another directory in any file dialog. This prevents me from saving files directly to my 'storage' partition. ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 936 | I decided to grab Firefox today, and right now I am enjoying it. Mr Creosote: Is that bug considered the slow window painting? Because there is a alleged patch for it on the release notes page. ----- Keep your stick on the ice |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 964 | It works fine so far. But there is this crappy download manager and its annoying "all downloads finished" message. Is there any way to disable this? Edit: Apparently the "finished" message can be suppressed by setting "browser.download.manager.showAlertOnComplete" to false. But if you disable the download manager completely, you can't see the progress of a download... Edited by Tapuak at 17:34 on February, 10th 2004 |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11097 | There is one annoying bug which I'm waiting for to be fixed, actually... I guess I'll have to see for myself then. ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Member Prof Gumby Posts: 607 | I've been using it since this morning; works fine. There's hardly any difference with Firebird 0.7 if you ask me. The most obvious changes are the new download manager (not much of an improvement over the separate download windows) and the fact that there are a bunch of default actions associated with certain file types (which I removed immediately). I haven't encountered any bugs so far. ----- "One Very Important Thought" |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11097 | Mind you I haven't done any research to verify this name issue. I've just been told about it. So anyway, if anyone tries it out, please let us know how it's working. I'll wait for Enigmail to be upgraded before I switch. ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Member Prof Gumby Posts: 607 | Hmm... makes you wonder about the quality of their "research". Quote: We have been very careful in researching the name to ensure that we will not have any problems down the road. Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11097 | They'll probably have to change the name again in the near future. "Firefox" is protected by a multinational patent owned by an IT support company from Germany. ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Member Prof Gumby Posts: 607 | The name changes are getting a bit ridiculous. The new name instantly made me think of the Clint Eastwood film of the same name, but apparently it's a reference to some sort of red panda bear. Guess I'll get used to it... AGAIN. ----- "One Very Important Thought" |
