Denmark hadn't qualified for the '92 tournament. They were 'reserve team' (being the 'best team not qualified). Yugoslavia had qualified, but they were banned from the tournament because of the war - and so Denmark got in without proper preparation.

Im probably just being dumb, but sorry I dont get that bit about the Yugoslavian war :?

The point is, before this tournament Greece had never even wona single game in a major tourny :o Denmark at least had a history...an uneventfull mostly crap history, but at least they had one.

No way Mr C! Denmark cant be classed as an outsider in the same breath as Greece!

Greece were THE bookmakers/everybodys RANK outsider, save Latvia, and even then it was close.

80/1!!!

Sure Denmark were unlikely winners, but they were still light years ahead of Greece, and much less of a shock.

I cant think of a rank outsider ever winning one of the big 3 international football tournaments previously.
Denmark 1992?

I'm now all for Greece to win. They played a very good match against the clueless Portugese team.
Heh - I told you so :P

I can't help but wonder how come you even remember all that? I think in '88 I didn't even understand the rules of the game yet. ;)

I just noticed that it'll go the way of '88 either way: Either the second of the group will beat the first (Greece wins) or the result of the first game between those two teams will be reversed (Portugal wins) ;)

I'm very happy with today's result, and I hope it doesn't go the way of '88.... :worried:

I don't acknowledge the validity of yesterday's match anyway. Both teams are already out for their complete shittiness in my book. That is why today's winner is also the rightful European champion :D

Both teams deserve to win today, although I'd prefer the Czechs (just out of sympathy for some of their players). Whoever wins, it'd be great if they beat Portugal, but that's not going to be easy - even if Greece have already proven to be capable of doing it. :)

My preferences: Holland is out of the tournament, that's the most important thing. :P

Latest nomination for the "worst player of the tournament" award: Edgar Davids.

I agree he hasnt been the best, but it will take a really 'good' player to steal the title of 'worst player' from beckham, hes was utter shite for almost every minute of every game.

Im pleased the Dutch made it through in the way they did as they had been knocked out for the past 3 tournaments on pens, I bet there are some big hangovers in Amsterdam this morning :)

Either the Netherland or Portugal will now definitely be in the final

This sucks. Looking at the choice of teams that are left, I'm all for Denmark. :P

Sweden - Netherlands was a completely dull game. Neither team would have deserved to advance to the next round. The worst thing about it: Either the Netherland or Portugal will now definitely be in the final :(
