There is one reason which speaks for the suite: In the current state, running Firefox and Thunderbird at the same time is just foolish, because large chunks of the code will be running twice. It has been announced this will be fixed / done better when they both reach version 2.0 - way too far off.

Sad. One alternative less to choose from. I like the suite-concept. Opera seems to be the last to support this, but has also announced to change its concept in the next version (8).
