True-that's why I tend to take it apart and keep only the bare minimum of it active. That makes it a fast and reasonably reliable (for a microsoft product) OS.

If you're going to reinstall Windows, I would suggest using Win98SE, Win2000, or WinXP.

WindowsME is so bug-ridden, its got fleas and an ant-farm built in.

It really is horrible. It may not be the root of the problem, but WindowsME is the root of MANY problems.

Just a small hint for you: Windows Explorer is not explorer.exe and Internet Explorer is not iexplore.exe. Those executables are just frontends. That is why I suggested reinstalling Internet Explorer in the first place...

They are not, but they are both as easily hackable.

I would check for spywares and malwares if I was you, Johann.

Of course, if you already checked then it's not really usefull for me to remind you. :P

However, we all know that 'Windows Explorer' and 'Internet Explorer' are one and the same program :P

I've already checked-no virus or spyware present anywhere.

Wouldn't surprise me if reinstalling Internet Explorer could solve this. Then again, better wait a little if someone else has a better piece of advice.

My windows explorer's learned a new trick-or rather, un-learned an old one. Usually, when you go to "file", you see:

-new
-shortcut
-remove
-change name
-properties
-close

now, I'm seeing
-shortcut(greyed out)
-remove
-change name
-properties
-*an entry with the current folder name*
-close

This means I can no longer make either shortcuts or new folders, which is rather annoying.

Also, if I right-click on a folder, there used to be a new folder option-also gone.

Has anyone seen that before? And if so, how do I get my old explorer back?

It's obviously an explorer problem, because if I use winfile or powerdesk (file managers) I can still make them, while "save as" dialogues also refuse to make new folders.

BTW, it's still windows ME.

Thanks in advance!
