Actually, I just followed the link and saw that CTRL+F12 sped up the emulation!

THanks though.

I'm having the exact same issue.
How would go about speeding up my character animation? Is this something I need to do in the emulator? Or in the actual game?

I'm running DOSbox 0.65

Thanks!

BWAHAHAHAH! I finally figured out what my problem was. The emulator was making the character's walk animation slower than it should have been. So, I just sped it up a bit.

Observatory = DOMINATED

:D

I haven't given up completely
Good to hear :) I'm perfectly convinced it is worth sitting through this for the rest of the game.

Yeah, must be. I HAVE beaten Noctropolis several times years ago, when I had an actual legit copy and an old Windows 95 machine. And I know I was never stuck on the observatory for this long before.

Heh, and I haven't given up completely...Yet. I'm a pretty stubborn guy, and likely won't give up completely for some time. Maybe the proper term would be sucker for punishment though. :P

Wow, and I thought I was stuck on this scene long when I first played the game... can't speak for Dosbox, but while it is a frustrating and silly scene for sure, it's not that hard when run on original hardware of the time and MS-DOS. Nothing beats the real thing, I guess.

Still, you've made it quite far in the game already, so leave a comment how you liked it and probably a word of caution why you gave up in the end.

Thanks a bunch. Heh, I don't think I ever bothered with timing before. I just relied on luck. Guess we can see how far that's been getting me now. :P

edit: And after several hours of trying this and various other click timings, I STILL keep getting caught. Maybe it's something to do with my computer's setup not wanting to run dosbox too well, but this crap is apparently impossible for me. Screw it, this is just pissing me off now. Thanks for trying to help out though, I do appreciate it.

Here's a little definition stuff to make it easier later:
1 - light moving left to right
2 - light moving top to bottom
3 - light moving from bottom left to top right

Ok, first step it to go to the foot of the telescope and pick up the screwdriver. This one is easy. Only two of the lights (1 and 3) are relevant for that step. Mind that they're moving asynchronously. Choose the 'Go' command and click on the screwdriver when both 1 and 3 are moving to the left. Then pick up the screwdriver. You're safe to stand there.

To get to the oil can from there, 2 and 3 are in your way now. This one is quite hard and annoying. The right moment is when 2 is just right of the can (moving up) and 3 is directly below the can (moving to upper right). You have to time it so that both lights are just moving away from you when you pass their pathes. There really isn't a better way to describe it. Patience is the key. No point trying wildly. Wait for the right moment when both movements match. One word of caution: Use the 'Take' command for this step, not 'Go', because otherwise, you might end up on the platform without the oil...

My apologies if this type of topic isn't allowed or whatever here, but I didn't see anything about it in the rules.

Anyway, so I used to have a legit copy of Noctropolis. Can't seem to find it though, so I grabbed the iso off of this site. Works decently well for me in dosbox, though it seems to not read mouseclicks too well half the time. Not a huge deal though.

Alright, on to the point. I swear I don't remember having as much trouble as I have been on the damned 'dodge the searchlight' part of the observatory, but I cannot for the life of me get to the stupid freaking oil can. Seeing as all the walkthroughs I've checked are completely useless for this(and most are just the same damned guide copied and pasted over and over again), I figure asking for help here seemed to be the only other real option open to me.

So, would anyone happen to have any pointers on how to get to the oil can? Like where the best spot is to walk from(door or telescope), and where the spotlights should be before I start walking over to the can?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. :)
