Yes, that explains the problem. Just mount the ISO image on OS level, then mount the virtual drive again in Dosbox (as CD) and it should work.

hehe, i think i did it the wrong way ;) i just unpacked the image to a folder an tried to start the install.exe.
so just without burning it or mounting it.
think i'll try the other ways explained here. so i'll have to mount that folder as a drive i think...

That's matching with the original, so it's safe to assume the download went well. How do use the image? Have you burned it to a CD or have you mounted it somehow (how?)?

Can you post the md5 hash of the ISO file? See the first few posts in this thread.

P.S. Welcome to the first new member (who has posted) since the forum upgrade - you've proven registration does work :D

erm... well, the next one with probs ;)
i downloaded dosbox, installed it and it works. i downloaded noctropolis (german version)unpacked it and unpacked the iso-file to the dos-c:. i started the install.exe a text appeared saying that the file check.sum is not working correctly. why that?
is the check.sum in the english version working correctly? if so, is it possible to install the english version and replace the english video and sound-files by the german?

Yes, the posts directly above yours should apply to your case just fine - they both work without burning the image to a CD. You need to mount the virtual CD to play in any case, though, so just mount it like you (presumably) did to install the game in the first place.

Is there a dummied down list of instructions on how to run this game without using a CDROM? I've installed DOSBox 0.65 along with the English version of Noctropolis as downloaded from this site. The installation went flawlessly. When I try to run the game however, the DOSBox closes just after the 'Flashpoint Productions' splash screen.

Here are the commands I'm typing:
mount c c:/noctrop
c:
dark

Any ideas?

Thanks for summing it up so accurately :) Here's the aequivalent for Unix-ish systems:

----------------------

I'm using /path/to/noctropolis.iso as placeholder for the location of the ISO file, /path/to/games as placeholder for the location of your installed games and /mnt/cdrom as mountpoint for the CD. Substitute these with your system's values.

Installing Noctropolis
----------------------

Software needed: noctropolis.iso, DOSBox.

Mount the ISO image using any file manager or via terminal (mount -t iso9660 -o loop /path/to/noctropolis.iso /mnt/cdrom).

Start DOSBox

Type the following:

mount d /mnt/cdrom -t cdrom -label NOCTROP
mount c /path/to/games
d:
install

At this point, the game should begin installing. Just follow the prompts and install Noctropolis to C:

Running Noctropolis
-------------------

Software needed: noctropolis.iso, DOSBox.

Mount the ISO image using any file manager or via terminal (mount -t iso9660 -o loop /path/to/noctropolis.iso /mnt/cdrom).

Start DOSBox

Type the following:

mount d /mnt/cdrom -t cdrom -label NOCTROP
mount c /path/to/games
c:
cd noctrop (default install location - substitute if you've changed it during installation)
dark

Sorry for quadruple posting, but I've noticed looking back through these forums that there are a lot of questions about Noctropolis. I thought I'd compile here the step by step process I used for installing and running the game for future peoples in need of help.

For purposes of this guide, E: is my cd-rom drive and C: is (wait for it) my hard drive.

Installing Noctropolis
----------------------

Software needed: noctropolis.iso, DOSBox, Daemon Tools.

mount noctropolis.iso using Daemon Tools.

Start DOSBox

Type the following:

mount e e: -t cdrom -label NOCTROP
mount c c:RetroGames (my games subdirectory, substitute your own obviously).
e:
install

At this point, the game should begin installing. Just follow the prompts and install Noctropolis to C:

Running Noctropolis
-------------------

Software needed: noctropolis.iso, DOSBox, Daemon Tools.

mount noctropolis.iso using Daemon Tools.

Start DOSBox

Type the following:

mount e e: -t cdrom -label NOCTROP
mount c c:RetroGames (my games subdirectory, substitute your own obviously).
c:
chdir NOCTROP (or whatever folder the game is installed in).
dark

Enjoy!

Bah, I got it working. Apparently you need to have the cd mounted to play. Can't just run off the hard drive. :embarassed:

Thanks for help.

On further examination, I get an error saying "Exit to Error. Page fault didn't correct table".

Thanks, I got it installed now. It ran the first time, albeit without sound. Si I quit to change the sound settings and now whenever I try to run the game within DosBox, it hangs there for a few seconds like it's going to load and then DosBox just closes :/

Any ideas?

Have you added the -label NOCTROP switch to the CD's mount command?

Hi. I did what Wandrell said, and it seems to be working alright, but every time I get to the point where it's ready to begin installation, it just keeps asking me to insert the CD over and over again. Help is appreciated.

Yes. Do what Wandrell suggested on June 3rd.
