Member Retired Gumby Posts: 1007 | Thanks a lot. Actually, I remember seeing it on a shareware compilation CD I was using yesterday; I'll give it a try . ----- NetDanzr
-The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog- |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 1007 | Fucking Windows XP . I followed Tapuak's advice and used Infranview, which did a very fast and good job; within three days I've had all the screenshots converted and thumbnails created; alltogether over 600 images. However, for some reason WinXP is saving everything (including the extensions) in capital letters. Do you know of any way to turn this off? Manually changing all the file names will take me another three days ... ----- NetDanzr
-The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog- |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11097 | There are small tools which make all files in specific directories or trees into lowercase. I had one some time ago, worked really great..... will see if I can find it again. ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11097 | Found: Renamer 1.0 maps whole directories (including all subdirectories) to either uppercase or lowercase with one click. ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 1007 | Awesome! It did in a minute or so . I'm very proud of you, Mr Creosote . In other news, I finally solved that "?" problem. Turns out I've already had addslashes() (you coded them in yourself), but in those two particular games, I copied the review straight from Word, which gives you those fancy curly quotation marks. Filtering reviews through Notepad solves that issue. ----- NetDanzr
-The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog- |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11097 | Ah, yes, bad old Word.... Notepad isn't ASCII conform, either, by the way - and it cuts off lines longer than 255 characters ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 1007 | Actually, I use Notespad, which allows me to convert everything into UNIX ASCII . Anyway, I just managed my first update under the new system, with streamlined screenshot handling and index page. I also started to expand the tech section for each game, but it's slow going. VDMSound is still nowhere close to 100% reliability, and other programs, such as DosBox are even worse off. To get all the games running under WinXP will be a challenge. ----- NetDanzr
-The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog- |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11097 | Errors in the update: Pizza Tycoon: Developer is Software 2000 (you can see their logo on the sixth screenshot in the lower right corner). It is a German game originally titled Pizza Connection, English version is identical, only the name changed. Thumbnail of screenshot 9 is missing. Nebulus: "?only?" Member Retired Gumby Posts: 1007 | Thanks for telling me. The thumbnail is there; I double-checked, and I fixed Nebulus. Had more of those, and I though I've caught all of them . As for Software 2000, I'll fix that as soon as I make a write-up for the company . And as for things like VDMSound, I have no illusions that I'd attract new gamers; I merely want the old-timers to be able to play. Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11097 | You're right about the thumbnail, seems like it just didn't load for me first time. Real old-timers play the games on their native machines anyway ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 1007 | :P In that case, you may be able to help me out. I started to collect info on Software 2000. The reason I didn't include it into Pizza Tycoon was that I didn't know that Cybernetic Corporation was the same as Software 2000. Anyway, I tried to access their site but could not connect, and Google wasn't too helpful, either. Do you know where I can get more info about the company (other than MobyGames and HOTU)? ----- NetDanzr
-The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog- |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11097 | Software 2000 went bancrupt a year ago (February 2002), that is why their website is dead. I can only give you the information I know from my own memory (sources: various old computer magazines): -founded in 1987 by Marc, Norbert and Andreas Wadenga in Eutin (that's a small town in northern Germany) -famous mainly for their Bundesliga Manager (first part 1989) series, programmed and designed by Jens Onnen & Werner Krahe -also the publisher of several smaller German developers, most notably the Bavarian Die Weltenschmiede (they made text adventures, like Das Stundenglas, Hexuma or Jonathan and later point & click Adventures like Der Schatz im Silbersee) -Onnen & Krahe left Software 2000 in 1998 (?) to found their own company: heart-light; they continued making football manager games (the first one was Kurt in early 1999, later the Kicker Fußballmanager series) which gave Software 2000's Bundesliga Manager a hard time; BM '97 disappointed the fans, BM '98 was even only a little update sold for full price; BM X (their last game) was rushed out and very buggy -in their biggest time (1996-'98), Software 2000 had approximately 50 people working for them Hope this helps a bit. ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 1007 | Awesome! I've had some of that information, but there's a lot more that was very helpful. Oh, and just out of curiosity: Is Bundesliga Manager Professional the same as The Manager? Both were released the same year, it seems...
