![]() Member Student Gumby Posts: 32 | Hiya! today I did a fresh install from my original Gobliins 2 disks. All went well and I started the game. But there was NO copy protection screen?!? the game comes with the color charts! On disks I see it is v1.00 but in-game it reports 1.03 ... files seem OK on both disks: ![]() Needless to say I did not apply any crack on this... where is my wizard copy protection screen!? ![]() My 2nd question is if there is a Goblins3 update/patch. I vaguely remember there is one but I can't find it! TIA for any info! ![]() |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 1092 | Do you recall it having a copy protection? But I don't think they removed it until the CD versions. And as far as I know there is no patch for Goblins 3, but things like patches are sometimes very hard to find. Sorry I can't be of any help. |

![]() Member Student Gumby Posts: 32 | The box does have the color charts, I am 99.9% sure it has... will check on my storage tomorrow... I also tried the TOSEC images, they don't have the protection screen too... maybe the Sierra version lacks it? edit: I was wrong, just checked: my version does not have any color charts or mentions anything about copy protection at the manual... ----- Edited by keropi at 21:57 on July 14th, 2013 |

![]() Member Student Gumby Posts: 32 | ^ are we sure it's not a matter of EU vs US release though? My gob1 and gob2 sets are Sierra versions... maybe there is a difference like gob3 (us sierra release different logo screen/no protection VS eu release with better logo screen but with protection) will check the images, thanks! edit: I forgot to mention 2 things that might be interesting: a. the 2 gobliiins sets I have are 2 different original disk sets from Sierra releases, what are the chances both sets are altered? b. yesterday I tried gobliins2 from the TOSEC archive. It installed v1.02 that has the copy protection screen. Now if you go ahead and apply the 1.03 update (http://www.patches-scrolls.com/dl.php?file=gob2dk.zip) then there is no copy protection any more... could it be a rare case where the update also removed the protection? ![]() ----- Edited by keropi at 18:09 on July 14th, 2013 |

Member Prof Gumby Posts: 486 | >a. the 2 gobliiins sets I have are 2 different original disk sets from Sierra releases, >what are the chances both sets are altered? I can't find any disk copy protection on GOB2 (But I don't know it has manual protection.) I've installed correctly, so it runs well on DOSBOX with MS-DOS 6.22 installed on HDD.) I've compared yours with TOSEC's one. Only a few of sectors (532 bytes) are different from TOSEC's one. Also "MDO.CFG " is written on your disk 1. This file should not be written on original disk. But I did fix it easily by using TOSEC's image. Therefore TOSEC's image must be good dumped. As you know, MOUSE Driver needs to run. ----- Edited by ibmpc5150 at 18:53 on July 14th, 2013 |

![]() Member Student Gumby Posts: 32 | you are right, TOSEC is still v1.03 , I was mistaken... v1.02 from another source gives this copy protection screen: ![]() if you take that 1.02 version and update it to 1.03 with the patch then you no longer get the protection screen... I have also looked at the manuals of both my GOB1 and GOB2 games, there are no copy protection sheets and no mention on the manuals for one. These games came from US. My EU Goblins3 game does have the color copy protection sheets and it has instruction on the manual how to use it. I believe that for at least GOB2 there was copy protection on previous version copies of the game (scene releases came with a TSR crack) or maybe it was region-specific (EU only?) Gobliiins1 CGA/EGA/VGA(16color? 32color?) version also had copy protection (scene release had a crack that replaced INTRO.STK and no copy protection screen would show) but 256color vga-only version had no copy protection at all. Maybe someone knows more and corrects my assumptions ![]() |

Member Prof Gumby Posts: 486 | http://www.mediafire.com/download/qi8d728q52119pf/Goblins_2_(DE).zip This is DE version of GOB3. (2 sets of disk 1.) Except disk 1, disk 2-5 are same as English. |

![]() Moderator Deceased Gumby Posts: 1413 | Re Goblins 3: Judging by one of the major Sierra fan sites (SierraHelp) at least the US version doesn't have a patch. But there seem to exist a lot of different versions of this game (CD, floppy, Windows, DOS, Amiga). e.g.: See this thread on the ScummVM Forums. ----- The known is finite, the unknown infinite. - Thomas Henry Huxley |
