Member Prof Gumby Posts: 486 | Winimage is nice tool to dump disks on Windows if disk has no problem (no bad or broken). But the only serious probem is the following. If any track / sector has error with just 1 byte only, the related track/sector must be ignored and fill byte as 00h. (Example : If Track 10 / Side 0 / Sector 1 has error to read and ignored, the related content on Track 10 / Sector 1-9 is filled as 00h) I don't know why Winimage ignores related track/sectors. But I'm sure it is related with different FDC handling (function) on Windows. I've checked "Sports Spectacular (1200)" but most of disk image content is filled as 00h. If the contributor dumped it by Teledisk or DCOPY.EXE (WINIMAGE.EXE), it is Not filled as 00h though the track/sector doesn't read correctly and be ignored (skipped). I don't recommend to read disk by Winimage which is broken or bad status. In this case, I always dump it by Teledisk and DCOPY.EXE just several times to fix the problem by Hex editor or another PC Utility on real DOS. Winimage <-- If disk has no error to dump, it is very nice dumping tool. But if not, Winimage is Not so helpful to fix (recover) the bad dumped (broken) disk image. ----- Edited by ibmpc5150 at 20:47 on December 13th, 2014 |
