I've done a new version of my robots game. I'm not posting to show off with it, it's just that I need testers.

So look on my site, the second version is 'robots2.zip' ofcourse. You might want to download the first one also, for additional info.

If you get to an interesting point, please send me the save.
Save a lot. The is one very naughty bug that I can't eliminate yet ( has to do with memory alocation, which happens there a lot, so I don't know the exact reason). It may crush the game sometimes.

If someone is really wiling to help me, I'm ready to share the sources.

System requirements? (Just a hint: it would certainly be useful to say anything about that on your site, too...)

Ugh, sorry Mr Creosote, but you didn't really expect me to write programs for Linux, did you ?

In a little I'll upload a new version, and fix the site ;)

I didn't expect anything, and as long as it isn't written for Windows NT, I'm pretty sure I can run it. Just pointing out the obvious: if you don't tell anything, people can't know what to expect. Oh, and there are other computers and operating systems than Windows and Linux, you know...

heh , I know. I also know that you're running Linux.

Here's version 2.1 . I have done some improvements and fixed a few minor bugs. They don't stop the crushing but hopefully reduce it's frequency.

I've tried the program now. Good news: It runs. I'm not sure if it does so correctly, though, because I haven't really figured out what it's about yet (in spite of reading the accompanying text file). On this first screenshot, you can see what comes up when I run it. I can then use the top right buttons and the blue things start floating around (or they stop, depedings on the button). I can also place more of the green things.

When I doubleclick on one of the blue things, however, a seemingly empty box pops up which I can't close again. I guess that's not how it's supposed to be?

Some general explanations would indeed be nice...

Err.. hell.. this ain't at all the way it is supposed to be.

The buttons on the right should be six at number, but it seems that your win-box (?) has a problem with windows sizes ( it cut off the toolbar window)
The blue thing that pops-up should be an info window which shows some listed data and in the secons tab some drawings ( it has two tabs) . That ain't at all the way it should look.

About the program ( btw, the lates version available for download has an improved read-me ).
The small floating blue things are supposed to be some simulated creatures. They have neural networks , which is a biologic inspirated computing techinique. Again, biologically inspirated, they can multiply if they eat enough food ( the green circles) . Their babies turn out to be like them, but with small accidents which can lead to improvement.
About the neural networks: they aren't my own invention :), I'd be very smart if I was the one.
They basically emulate the biologic neurons, but simplify. They transport the signal from sensors to efectors neurons, meanwhile this suffers modifications and processing in it's path from neuron to neuron. They can ( mine do) feedback, coenection wheights for each link between two neurons, and a lot of other charactheristics that can modifiy evolutionary. Neural networks and evolutionary algorithms are widelly used today in a variety of domains. There is huge litterature on the web about them.
Well, here are some pics about how it is supposed to look:

Here's another ... btw the wall tool is to put walls in the sim. Those can force the creatures to evolve for activelly searching for food.

Actually, for now the creatures reproduce asexually :embarassed: , but since I understand that sexuat reproduction favorites variety, I might program them to do so :D

So they're all hermaphrodites. So what? They're still having sex, even if it's only with themselves ;)

I'm running a P4 2.6GHz and within 1 minute they are all dead, this is just running the program, not making any changes, I changed the food replication rate and they survive but they all go to the walls and sit there, and either die off after a while or move back into the center for some food.

What is with this behaviour? They REST?

Here is a screeny:

Ok, update, all but six are dead, all 6 are on 1500 Energy points, have no children, and they arn't moving, are they all fat and lazy or what? :P

Not to mention they all have 10 eyes at least... has the program crashed?

I like the idea behind it, keep up the good work =]

I just downloaded it and tried it for a while. I concur with Delos about the robots tending to be stupid lazy wall huggers, even when I drag them out in the middle they head straight back to their spot on the wall (even ignoring food).
Contrary to the warning in the readme, I'm on win98 and haven't had any trouble so far.
There's a cosmetic error in the global options menu, the button says "filp training". Since there's no mention of "filps" in the readme or your site or here, I assume it's supposed to be "flip training" (although even that doesn't make much sense *shrug* ).

Here's a couple screenies of my game:
