Cr*p...

My comp broke down...again.

It says it doesn't have enough RAM for anything,
(not even for the registry or monitor) but it does detect and scan the 128 mb RDRAM chip that's in there.
There is an orange light on on my motherboard, but since I don't usually use the thing without its cover, I don't know how long it has been on.

Has anyone had this problem before?

(further info:

Intel vc820 motherboard, p3 1 GHz, 1 memory bank(or whatever it's called in English) and one continuity module.)

I'm guessing he meant the system monitor. Try pressing ctrl+alt+del on you xp computer when your back at uni :D

What on earth is a 'continuity module'?

Mr Creosote: I was imprecise. It didn't have enough system resources for the monitor's driver (or any other driver, since nothing worked)
Or so it said. What the REAL problem appears to have been was that the registry was messed up,
since when I fixed that, it worked again.
I still don't get why it complained about not having enough memory, and not about a broken registry. Some Win ME quirk perhaps? At least it seems to work again now :)

Breaker: continuity module is loosely translated from the Dutch word "continuïteitsmodule"
or the thing you need, if you use RDRAM, to fill up empty memory slots on your motherboard.

I'm guessing its something like a terminator on a SCSI cable (to terminate a singnal). It doesn't do anything except fill up empty spaces so the stuff will work I presume.

Indeed, it's just there to fill up space. RDRAM won't work until all slots are full, either with RDRAM or continuity modules.

So basically, it's just a placebo RAM chip.

Yep!

Plus, it's ugly, a lot smaller and not quite so blue as my other chip :)

Which is especially fatal since it's in the computer case :P

No actually, I think I bought a case just to put the thing away. ;)

Hmm, I'm spamming and my post count doesn't go up. I think I must log in.

Not completely, since I don't watch the member list as I used to, but I'm pretty sure I had 22 posts when I started this topic.

Wait, I'll check it for you.

Okay, my mistake. I must have been sleeping. :)
I tested it in the "dummy topic" and my post count goes up.
Sorry...

Useless topic deleted, so don't be too shocked that your post count has been decreased again ;)
