...to avoid 'spoofed' links on websites. Here is an excerpt from the full 'Knowledge Base' entry:
Quote:
The most effective step that you can take to help protect yourself from malicious hyperlinks is not to click them. Rather, type the URL of your intended destination in the address bar yourself. By manually typing the URL in the address bar, you can verify the information that Internet Explorer uses to access the destination Web site. To do so, type the URL in the Address bar, and then press ENTER.

Happy surfing :D

I remember one time I was trying to figure out why Microsoft Photo! 2002 was crashing, because I used the text feature within it, as it was really slick. I went to the knowledge base and I figured out what was causing it to crash. Their solution was to "Go to the Add/Remove programs list, and remove Microsoft Photo! 2002 from your computer. A better solution is not available."

Thanks.

That one is still working. I tried it one of the university computers for demonstration purposes (of course ;)), and the virus scanner immediately alerted me that a virus has been detected. Great virus, one line of code - I'm so proud :D

At least this one is more dangerous than one thing I've been shown as a "virus" which was a simple infinite loop in fact. :pain:

Then again, user stupidity has no limits, so the simplest 'virii' are sometimes the most effective. After all, we all know that making Internet Explorer crash will make Windows unusable...

The most annoying thing about these isn't the actual virus mails anymore, but all the 'delivery failed' mails I get, because some virus inserted my address as faked sender and the mail got rejected by some filter
