I just loooooove the smell of old topics in the mornin'.

I've noticed several "found" entries appeared since I last read this. I wonder, the start of this topic is now almost a year ago, and a quarter (8/31) have been found. Nice result(not being sarcastic here, actually. I'm serious). Can we do this again with a new magazine list? Maybe..as a two-monthly or so "scavenger hunt"? Might be a nice addition to the site...
Opinions, anyone?
IMO, any game we get this way is one more game saved...

Added a few more [found] tags :D

I was very positively surprised by the response from people (especially how many non-regulars tried helping) to this, so I wouldn't mind continuing / setting up a new list. The reason why I haven't already is just that this is very boring work. It not only involves going through magazines (of which I own many), but also checking the Internet for every single game to see whether it's actually lost or in fact readily available.

What I could imagine doing is just listing the games reviewed in each issue without further initial checking, and then everybody starting to search the net. That way, the load would be a little more balanced on more shoulders...

Personally, I'm glad you own those magazines.
The game magazines I have (few) almost all deal with NES and SNES, and almost all games are preserved.

I'm fine with the longer list. Bring it on! ;)

Well, here's the easiest ones: Starflight I (for PC, Mac, Amiga, and C64) andd Starflight II (for PC, Mac, and Amiga) are at

http://www.starflight3.net

as well as some demos for a proposed sequel and links to other sites hosting the game and various real or proposed remakes. HOTU also has them, so these two aren't in immediate danger of disappearing.

Sadly, the Starflight 3 page looks a bit moribund -- it was last updated back in August and most of the links are even older; the proposed game itself has yet to appear after six years of work. There is, however, an active forum for game fans and developers.

"Devil Crash" for PC-Engine was also released as "Devil's Crush". The Mega Drive version is called "Devil Crash" or "Dragon's Fury". :pain:

I've got the Mega Drive version. Seems to be a mediocre pinball game.

Thanks, I've added all that information to the post plus links to the games we have for download on our own site ;)

"Devil Crash" and "Dragon's Fury" are definitely the same game as "Devil Crash" judging from the reviews and screenshots, however, I'm wondering why there isn't any mention of the PC Engine version which they reviewed in that magazine...

Going great so far! only six left to go!

Bonze Adventure (PC-Engine)
Cybercore (PC-Engine)
F1 Triple Battle (PC-Engine)
Image Fight (PC-Engine)
Kujaki-Oh 2 / Mystic Defender (Mega Drive)
PC Gengin (PC-Engine)

I'm sure I had Mystic Defender-until I lost all my megadrive-games in a system crash/reinstall kind of situation :pain:

Image fight:

http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=8181

Cybercore can be found on classicgaming.com

http://www.classicgaming.com/thedump/tg16/whatsold.htm

F1 Triple Battle can be found here:
http://www.bhlegend.com/php/show.php3?game=953

According to this page Mystic Defender is built into MAME:
http://caesar.logiqx.com/html/emus/multi/mame/mt_mystd.shtml
and if we don't believe that, I just downloaded it from here:
http://www.romnation.net/srv/download/rom/19492/genesis/Mystic-Defender-REV-00-JUE-h2.html

Here's one version of Bonze Adventure,
http://www.bhlegend.com/php/show.php3?game=1013
Again, built into MAME as well.

Info on PC Gengin(German):
http://www.kultpower.de/powerplay_testbericht_extern.php3?im=pcgengin.jpg
Hmmm, no easily found download link for this one...however, the gameboy version(called gb gengin) seems readily available.

Six left to find information about - we still need to determine whether they're available anywhere.

"PC Gengin" looks like what I commonly know as "Bonk" or "BC Kid". In fact, the screenshots in the magazine show situations I remember from BC Kid on the Amiga, so I guess it's the same game (link added).

Image Fight and Mystic Defender link added.

Cybercore: Can't figure that site out. Although it says the game has been added, I can't locate it.

F1 Triple Battle, Bonze Adventure: Different system again, but link added, of course.

We got quite far already. I desperately need to come up with a better technical system to manage these 'game entries', though. Editing posts back and forth here in the forum is a pain with such long lists. That doesn't mean you should stop looking, of course ;)

Turbo Grafx is almost the same as a PC Engine. Both are from NEC and had mostly the same games, as far as I know. The different names are due to regional distributions.

The second link I posted describes the PC Engine version. What's the difference?

There are a lot of versions missing from the list, I noticed.

I propose that we consider a game "found" once we have a working version for at least one system, unless there is strong evidence that versions differ significantly.
More are always good, but then we run the risk of looking forever for new versions.

Phew, going to bed now...I've done everything up to K.
By the way, lots of praise to HOTUD. They seem to have over half the games on the list!

So is it almost the same, or exactly the same with just different names (like SNES / Super Famicom)?

I disagree, but that shouldn't stop you from setting your own priorities :)

Here's a little frontend I made for this game search: http://goodolddays.net/lostgames.php. Regular administration logins work there, too. Mind you it hasn't been done to be overly userfriendly. Some syntax stuff isn't too intuitive, but it beats list handling in the forum any day.

The 'lost' list works exactly as you proposed: As soon as there's one link for any system, a game won't turn up there anymore. What I don't know yet is how to handle private collections. I'm sure I have most of these games lying around on 'dump' CDs here, but that doesn't make them available to the public, so it has to be treated differently. Any ideas?

Moonchild is now available for pocket pc at the site from the review. I think you'd need to contact the site owner to get info on the original game. Maybe he even has a working version.

I had the same problem with don't go alone, and then I tried google.

Must be a bug...

Shall we make this tread a news entry? we might get a lot of extra help that way!

Sure, you can make a newspost about it, but I wouldn't expect any response. You know how passive people are. We should better find a way to deal with games not available online, but being present in private collections, though.
