I'm actually glad they made it and not Spain. Also I think the Netherlands are more likely to advance than Germany, considering who they'll be up against in their final group matches. Today I'll be cheering for Croatia to kick England out of the tournament, although that's probably wishful thinking, but they deserve a win. ----- "One Very Important Thought" |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11098 | What about this 'Ronaldo' guy? He's supposedly a 'star', too, for whatever reason. Anyway, even if he isn't, two 'stars' in the Portugese team is two players more than I've heard the names of compared to Spain Group B had the most boring result: France and England made it. I was actually hoping for Switzerland to beat the French ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 964 | Actually, I was hoping that Croatia would beat England; but in the end, England was the team with the most consistent performance in the entire group. My impression so far (of course I can only judge from the games I've watched): Best team: England Worst team: Bulgaria Best player: Not sure; maybe Zidane because he virtually won the French games alone. Worst player: J. Stiel (Switzerland), M. Silvestre (France), M. Desailly (France) Most dislikable player: S. Gerrard (England), B. Zenden (Netherlands), E. Davids (Netherlands), R. van Nistelrooy (Netherlands) Most missed player: D. Seaman (England), C. Ramelow (Germany) |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11098 | That's actually quite a good idea. Here's my list: Best team: Czech Republic Worst team: Germany Best player: Pavel Nedved and this one Greek defender who basically killed off any attack by the Portugese all alone (don't know the name) Worst player: Igor Tudor (Croatia), Kevin Kuranyi (Germany) Most dislikable player: Phew... too many to list. Basically all 'stars', including, but not limited to Edgar Davids (Netherlands) Most missed player: Peter Schmeichel (Denmark), Gary Lineker (England) ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Well, I don't know... Probably just because he looks incredibly dislikable. Quote: Posted by Mr Creosote: Worst player: Igor Tudor (Croatia) Agreed - although he made a goal today. Quote: Posted by Mr Creosote: Most missed player: Peter Schmeichel (Denmark), Gary Lineker (England) Going back even further, I can list some more as well: J. Kohler (Germany), D. Eilts (Germany), Peter Shilton (England), P. Ince (England), the whole Scottish team. |

They were always great, especially their 50-year-old goalkeeper Also, I miss the Laudrup brothers and Flemming Povlsen from Denmark as well as Eike Immel and Pierre Littbarski from Germany ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 964 | In fact I'm sorry for Italy. In the second half against Bulgaria, they showed what a good team they can be. Once again an unfortunate ending of a tournament for them. |

Member Prof Gumby Posts: 607 | Although Italy was unlucky, I agree that in a way they deserved to disappear from the tournament, don't know what it is with these guys, they can't seem to make a team effort unless it's already too late... ----- "One Very Important Thought" |

Member Prof Gumby Posts: 336 | All quiet from the germans at the moment Bye bye Spain, bye bye Italy, bye bye Germany!!! That just leaves France and errr, England!! in with a chance of winning (and the Czech's, whom I'm wishing I put a bet on at 16/1 at the beginning of the tournament! I think they might just be the team to do it) Edited by fretz at 23:24 on June, 23rd 2004 |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11098 | Well, Germany certainly didn't deserve to get any further in the tournament the way they played. In all three games combined, they probably had 5 or 6 decent chances to score goals, and only one was successful. I'm just sad Latvia didn't make it, and the arrogant Dutch team won instead. ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |
