The Request Thread

As I said in that other thread, I have the problem of not being able to decide what games to review for the site these days. All other issues put aside, I'd like to try this: You choose.

A few months ago, I talked to someone who wrote one review for the site in 2001. He made one very good point: sites like this one are usually filled with the contributors' favourite games and therefore give a false impression on how those times really were. He then said I should just name a few games, and he'd review them then.

The last part (him writing about those games which I listed then) never happened, but in general, I still think it's a good idea. So now I'm asking you people whether you have some 'requests' (or let's say suggestions). This is my offer:

Name a game, and I'll play and review it

Rules:
-game must be available to me (for free)
-game must be runnable on my hardware (obviously)
-game must be of 'classic' style (older than ten years is safe; for newer suggestions, I reserve the right to reject)
-game mustn't be an RPG, FPS or RTS (I can't do these genres justice; what falls under these categories is, of course subject to my interpretation)

What's unimportant:
-whether I already know the game
-quality of the game
-'historical importance' of the game
-popularity of the game
-and so on...

As usual, what I'm not promising is that requested and reviewed games will be available for download. Publishing reviews without downloads is fine with me, so don't hesitate to choose games which are still for sale anywhere, but no complaints like "hey, but I just requested it to get the download" afterwards. Also, no promises on speed. Obviously, it'll take longer if I have to review games which I've never played before, and there are outside factors like 'life' which make deadlines impossible.

Oh, and if you think this idea stinks, feel free to tell me that, too.

You could try anything from the Street Rod series, I'm curious how you'd rate these games. I've always loved them, but that may have more to do with the theme (building up and racing your own car) than actual qualities of the game. I have a feeling most would consider these crap games. Different versions for different platforms available here.

Street Rod finished. It was fun to play a game 'systematically' for the sake of reviewing it again, actually :)

Now that was interesting, never really new what the story was about ... so I assumed it was the usual east vs west stuff.

Now let me think of another game ... maybe not as good, but did you ever play Herby, a maze type of game.

Never played it. Looks awful, but I'll give it a go after I've finished editing the Anno 1602 review.

I have one more request idea: The game that was too fast for me to run. The space invaders clone you tested for me.
