![]() Member Pupil Gumby Posts: 11 | I am trying out Dosbox. I took the file and extracted it to my hard driver (Winme). I followed the instructions of mounting, got the Z: drive thing, changed it to C:, then I 'dir', found the install file, clicked it, works - but it seems to cycle through the 1-100% for a little while, then it hangs at 57%. There is no mouse, nothing I can do. ESC(CANCEL) does not work. Any ideaS? |

![]() Member Pupil Gumby Posts: 11 | How do I get full screen with this? IS there a way? Also, I can't get the sound to work. I ended up copying everything to a CD and made the E drive a mount and the C drive a mount and installed it that way. Seems to work, but the sound is out and I really wanted that! I have a general AVANCE AC 97 sound card... Any ideaS? |

![]() Member Pupil Gumby Posts: 11 | LAst things, is there a macro to use, so I don't have to do this c c mount etc everytime I want to play the game? And is there a way of testing the sound before playing to see if it works? |

Quote: How do I get full screen with this? ALT-ENTERQuote: Also, I can't get the sound to work. Enable Soundblaster emulation in dosbox.conf and point the game to the same setting in the installation / setup routine.Longer version: In Dosbox, write config -writeconf dosbox.conf and quit. Open the newly created file in a text editor of your choice, and find the 'sblaster' section. Here, you should note the values for 'type', 'base', 'dma' and 'irq' (the defaults should be fine). Now find the 'mixer' heading. Make sure that 'nosound' is set to 'false'. Save the file and use the -f switch with Dosbox, i.e. dosbox -f dosbox.conf Within Dosbox, change to the game's installation directory and run 'install'. Choose Soundblaster for sound and if you're asked, fill in the values you wrote down earlier. Quote: is there a macro to use, so I don't have to do this c c mount etc everytime I want to play the game? Again, open your configuration file and go to the last section ('autoexec'). Write the mount commands you want to have executed there and they will be run every time you start Dosbox. Also, make sure you're actually mounting the CD as a CD, and not as a harddrive.Edited by Mr Creosote at 10:29 on April, 13th 2006 ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

AS for the sound, if all of the above is already true as it was and the sound still does not work, am I out of luck? I wondered about installing old soundblaster drivers from the creative.com site, but I wonder if this will just play havoc with my sound drivers that I already have... ![]() Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11573 | Using the -f switch when starting Dosbox tells it to use the file which is specified afterwards as configuration. Quote: I used the e e: -t cdrom, is that correct? Yes.Quote: I wondered about installing old soundblaster drivers from the creative.com site, but I wonder if this will just play havoc with my sound drivers that I already have... Do not do that! You have to understand that there is no relation between the actual hardware and software settings of your real sound card and the virtual one which is emulated by Dosbox. The requests to play sound are just forwarded from the virtual Soundblaster to your real device internally. Installing non-fitting device drivers can seriously mess your system up.Also my IRQ is 11 according to my device manager... If it's not working even though you've done everything I said (including activating sound within the game), what about any other game? Do any of these play sound? ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

![]() Member Pupil Gumby Posts: 11 | I am assuming you mean activating sound within the game to refer to the INSTALL process where it asks me which kind of card I have, DMA, IRQ etc. Also, I have turned up the volume in the actual game under settings. This might be noteworthy as well. I was running an MP3 through winamp when I started DOSBOX and the sound cut out completely through winamp. I am trying to find a game from your list that is small and has lots of sounds to test it out. Any suggestions? |

![]() Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11573 | Don't run any program which might block the sound card (i.e. any program which uses it) while running Dosbox. ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

![]() Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11573 | Look, could you at least try to be coherent in where you're answering what? Your last post has absolutely no relation to what can be read above it. This makes it absolutely impossible to follow for anyone who isn't me or you. This is not a way to work out problems. If anyone else has a similar problem with Noctropolis, he certainly doesn't want to read sidenotes about another game. That is why a problem with said other (apparantely nameless) game have to be discussed in another thread. There is one for that new problem already. Please decide what you want to talk about first and then post in the respectively fitting area instead of jumping back and forth. Even I can hardly follow your train of thought anymore, and I've been involved in this thread from the beginning. So, to sum it up: Post problems with Noctropolis' sound in this thread, and problems with getting another game to run that other thread. Otherwise, my answers will get muddled, too, and I doubt you'd be able to work out which game I'm talking about at some point - and then, nobody wins. ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

![]() Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11573 | My confusion mainly comes from the fact that I've answered your questions about Death Gate yesterday in the appropriate thread, yet you keep repeating them here instead of writing follow-up questions in the thread dedicated to that game... ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |
