If you are a pinball fan, then you definitely know Bally's pinball machine Eight Ball Deluxe table. In 1993 8 Ball Deluxe was released for the DOS system. This pinball game was created by PAS Systems and was distributed by Amte.

The game is based on the popular pool game 8-ball. So the goal of the game is obvious. Try to pocket all the balls of your group by hitting the targets that represents those balls. If you do so, the black ball is lit (number 8), which is the last ball. When you made that hit as well you win the game and the multiplier of the pinball game is increased.

8 Ball Deluxe is a multiplayer game as well, since 1-4 players can participate in each game. Each player has its own score, but you can also collaborate with the other players. In that case players 1 and 3 are playing with the solid balls (1-7) and players 2 and 4 with the striped balls (9-15).

The game uses the same scrolling technique as in Pinball Dreams. The actual pinball table is composed of 2 different screens (upper and lower) that are scrolling really smoothly back and forward, based on the speed and trajectory of the ball. This is a nice effect but at the same time can be really frustrating since many times it will cause you to lose the ball, because you will not be able to predict the actual path that the ball will follow. As you can understand this can make the game really difficult and frustrating. The game gives you the option to change some parameters of the table, like the table slope and the bumpers speed in order to make it easier.

8 Ball Deluxe is not as flashy as maybe someone expects, but it features decent graphics for the time and great sound (especially when using a Sound Blaster). Sound effects were taken from the real pinball machine and that makes it more realistic. Overall a nice flipper that every pinball fan should try.
