Review by Underdogs:
A great sequel to DID's underrated sci-fi space simulation Epic, Inferno continues the storyline of the Raxxon - Terran conflict that began at the time of Epic. The premise is more interesting and offers many more plot developments than the original game: you are a Terran pilot who was ambushed by the Raxxons, who transformed you surgically into one of their own. Enraged, you killed all the Raxxons on board the station to regain your human form. With renewed vigor and thrist for revenge, you vow to eliminate their race once and for all...

Inferno is based on an improved version of the flight engine used in DID's modern sim TFX. The improvements are very striking: textured ships and other space objects look much better than they did in Epic, and there are many minute details such as fuel trails and different types of missiles that look different. The missions are more varied than in Epic in both scope and locale: you'll dogfight enemy ships in space, fly into space stations to do indoor battles, and engage ground targets on planet surfaces. The plot unfolds as you play, with a dash of space opera/ political propaganda to keep things interesting, delivered via good-looking cutscenes accompanied by speech (missing in this CD-rip). Overall, Inferno is an excellent and much overlooked space combat sim that is perfect for fans of arcade-ish Wing Commander games who want a more varied and realistic sim. Thumbs up!
