Review by Underdogs:
As far as dungeon romps go, NetHack is one of the best games of its kind ever made, one that is much more sophisticated than most "mainstream&qout; titles such as Diablo by a long shot. (Read my review of NetHack for a full lowdown on why it deserves a place on every RPG fan’s hard drive). Although tremendously fun and addictive, NetHack's ASCII (i.e. text-only) graphics has discouraged many newbies (especially those who never played anything less than SVGA games) from trying it out. Although newer versions of NetHack feature nice-looking tile graphics, they still pale beside the eye-catching graphics of today’s RPGs.

Thanks to Jaakko Peltonen, NetHack now has enough pizzazz to attract even the most skeptical of critics. Falcon’s Eye is reworked version of NetHack that features detailed, light-sourced hi-res SVGA graphics in isometric view, a mouse-driven interface, digitized sound effects, and many user-friendly features while retaining all the features that made NetHack a masterpiece. In addition, Falcon’s Eye features autopilot, tooltip descriptions of game objects, and customizable keyboard commands for those who find mouse controls awkward. With constant upgrading by the author, Falcon’s Eye is definitely THE version to get for beginners, as well as NetHack veterans who wish the game were a bit more visually attractive. Two thumbs up, way up!
