I am from Sweden, Stockholm and this is my condensed story about DOS-games.

I have been playing DOS-games since I was 7-8 years old i think. The first games I can remember was Pac-Man, Alley Cat, and a game that was in 3D, and you got chased by ghosts. I believe the title was 3-Demon (Monster Maze).

When i was around 9 years old, I played Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards in my fathers office, when I was visiting him. I do think that particular game started my fascination for adventure games (although I didn't know the term back then). My English wasn't very good, but I managed to play it anyway with some help, but mostly alone, or with friends, giggling about all the words you could type that you wasn't supposed to type (or...?)

Anyway, a lot of Sierra games and then of course Doom. Beside these games, I played Stunts and Stunt Driver a lot! Car games and adventure games was my thing, mixed up with FPS titles. Then later in my teens I plaved more RPG, especially Eye of the Beholder and Might and Magic III - oh, and Ultima Underworld and 2. I also played Microproses The Legacy, Realm of Terror a lot. And I mean a lot. I think I spent the whole summer with my big brother, playing this endlessly in to the night, going to bed around 5-6 in the morning sometimes.. I have very fond memories of this. Still a game I love to this date. I've managed to complete the game, first in adult age.

I never had the luxury of owning a sound card though. I have always been playing DOS-games with crappy pc speaker sound until I finally bought myself a MT-32 (and later a SC-55). Nowadays I play games via DOSBOX, ScummVM and PCem, leaning more towards PCem because it gives a more challange, and feels more true.
