Dude, WHERE THE HELL did you find C.H.A.O.S. Continuum?? I've looked after that game my entire life. I even had it on CD rom but I gave it to a cousin long ago and the idiot of course lost it.

All these lost games should be shared on P2P networks, imo. We're not always looking for the latest games.

Not to mention most of them won't run in our current PCs. People should work considering the average of PC users worldwide. I remember when Quake was released. I had to wait years so I could get it running at a decent speed.

Anyways, if anyone can PLEASE contact me at: [please mind §5 of the forum rules -Mr Creosote]

Really appreciated!

We're treading into the territory of one of my old editorials here with the question of the CD barrier. In my opinion, there isn't a real reason why full CD games can't be offered for download in some way. As you said, we're doing it here. It's just a matter of 'outsourcing' those files to servers which aren't paid for by transfer. With DSL lines being the standard these days, this has become a non-issue, but webmasters just aren't flexible enough.

Anyway, I agree that the initial premise might have been flawed in that way. However, in the course of this thread, we shifted focus significantly. Most of the games which got listed on the 'lost games' page are from the 80s. Many can't be found.

I felt on this topic looking for something else.

This thread started by reclaiming games from 1994.

I just felt like mentioning that the reason that games from around 1993 and up cannot be found in abandonware is simply because around that time, games started to take big clunks of memory (cd-rom) and use multimedia (the music often recorded on separate tracks directly as cd-audio).

This is why you will sometimes find a DOS game
in abandonware that had an enhanced cd-rom version but you cannot find that enhanced version (example: Dagger Of Amon Ra Talkie).

Then, many games from the mid-90's and up are still "actively" copyright-protected, as some of them find their way in valuepacks (Explosiv, Sold Out, etc..). Others are hanging with their creators wondering what to do.

Maybe in 10 years we'll start getting cd image files in abandonware?

This site has a couple of the very early cd-roms. I've seen Alone In The Dark talkie elsewhere. It's getting there, very slowly.

Cheers,

Cedric

Getting it to run shouldn't be a huge problem once I have the game :)

Thanks for the offer, but I have it. The list is intended for games which are unavailable to the 'public'.

Registering means leaving data about yourself. That's not what I consider freely available. Anyway, it's not about me or anyone else in specific getting or having the game, but only about availability to everyone. The game's certainly not lost, though, that much is certain now.

That site only says "You are not logged in" when clicking the download link, so it's still not publically available.

I consider edonkey more like a black market, you may find anything there but with time, and it may not work, or not be what you expected. Unless it is found somewhere where it can be easily get, like a webpage, I wouldn't not say that it is available, but at least it is not lost.
