I just watched Canadian Broadcasting Channel build up to the 100m women's hurdles for about 30 minutes, since the 'top' runner was from Canada. Then only seconds into the event watch her crash into the first hurdle taking out other runners. It's amazing that after all the preperation that somebody can still make mistakes like that.

He even has his own reality show now, where they follow his family around all day. Truly horrible. :P

Apparently it's the same shit in any country...

Could someone name seven famous people from Kansas now? :P

On a side note, Belgium scored their first (and probably only) gold medal of the olympics in women's tennis. Yay!
I guess that answers your question...

Er, um, yes. I'm not sure if your list proves your point, or mine. Anyway, Belgium is a wonderful country and I go there regularly. And Belgium has now won a gold medal, apparently. Not sure in which event, though.

I just had a look at the lists and those were the one I know (besides the two tennis players):

Gerardus Mercator
Peter Paul Rubens
Jean-Marie Pfaff :o
Hieronymus Bosch
Helmut Lotti

Actually, it doesn't matter where they are from anyway...

Yes, I know his comics, but I don't think I've ever heard his name before. Just like with 'Morris' who I think is Belgian, too. No idea what his real name is.

You mentioned Wilfried Martens twice. How sad is that.
hehe - when there aren't enough distinct names...

I skimmed over that list, and the only names I'm familiar with were Jean-Claude Van Damme, Jeanne Deckers, Audrey Hepburn who is (on the site itself) described as the daughter of British banker and a Dutch baroness and Hercule Poirot who is a fictional character. So that leaves the first two. If that's what Belgium wants to be famous for, I'm fine with it :D

I'll resist making the obvious pun about paper being very useful on the toilet ;)

Perhaps visitors to this site would like to enter the world-wide competition "Name seven famous Belgians". It's been running since 1968 and the previous highest score is four. Eddy Merckx, yeah, and a painter chap, and that bloke who invented what was it, and that woman who was the first person to....

Yeah it would be funny to see Jeremy Wariner, who came in first, make a Black Power salute! The poor guy gets so much criticism for being white... ;)

Thanks, Mr Creosote.

Pity about the German women's soccer - but from what I saw, the USA deserved to win.

American 1-2-3 in the 400m - perhaps there'll be a Black Power salute during the medal ceremony, as in 1968, I think. Or maybe not.

Mr Creosote: Which were the two bronze medals Belgium got earlier by the way? I bet there was cheating involved :P
One of those was in women's judo, I didn't see that competition so who knows, maybe you're right. The other one was in the bicycle road race, where Axel Merckx (son of Eddy Merckx, five-times Tour de France winner) managed to stay ahead of the pack by only a few meters, good enough for third place. No cheating involved there I think. ;)

The attachment was supposed to be a picture of The Vicar. I've sent a better one this time. perhaps Mr Creosotoe could convert it into a "real" picture like all you other guys have.
Done! Log in, go to 'Profile' (top menu) and choose 'vicar.png' from the drop-down menu. The image will then appear next to all of your posts.
