how about the viewing of more than 10 games per page?
Doesn't look too great. I simply can't think of any spot on the site to put this option to. The logical choice would be the top menu (doesn't make any sense anywhere else), but that's already crammed full, occupying all space which is available. Unless someone comes up with a very good idea, I doubt it'll happen :(

Okay, done. I think I'm slightly lower than the average for most games (rating-wise) because they are not all my childhood favourites.(like they tend to be for the reviewer)
Then go on and write a few more reviews so that others can dump your original ratings, too. Anyone up to 'correct' a few ratings which Johann spoiled again? :P

Well, most of the re-thinking was actually easier than I thought! ;)

I meant as a settable option before searching.
Sure, if I can fit it anywhere. The menu is already pretty much crammed full of stuff already, but I'll give it some thought some time this weekend.

Not such a good idea, because the average number of 'bytes transfered per page' would be too high then. Think of the modem users...

I meant as a settable option before searching.
Modem users shouldn't be troubled too much then, IMO at least.

Just for the record: Only full numbers are valid ratings. A few games have overall ratings of something like x.5, but that's only if the average of the distinct ratings given by different people causes this. You'll have to decide in all cases

You can add these ratings yourself - I'll send you a private message with instructions.

BTW, what's up with the review of Blood 2? only one word appears in the preview-review text box.
That's because it's always the first paragraph of the review which appears on the listings. If that paragraph consists of just one word... well, bad luck ;)

Then I'll add a few ratings... :)
Without comments, I don't have too much time today. And not for all games either. Just those I've played and still remember well enough.
I've tried to follow the description of the diffferent ratings.

Battle for Wesnoth 4.5
Battle Isle 4
Bio Menace 3
Black Thorne 5
Catch The Kreis 5 (not much replayability and small AI bugs, otherwise a perfect 6)
Cool Spot 3
Dart 'm up 2
Descent 3
Dune 4 (just can't get it to run properly for more than 15 minutes)
Gobliiins 4.5
Gobliins 2 3
Goblins 3
Goof Troop 4
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis 4(I just don't get the 6)
Jagged Alliance 4
King's Quest: Quest for the Crown (Remake) 5 (just too short)
Kirby's Dreamland 3
Lemmings would be a 3, because I really hate it but it's inventive so a 4
Loom 4
Mad TV 5
Maniac Mansion 5.5
Mega Lo Mania 3
Metal Marines 4
Monkey Island 2 5
Paperboy 5
Parashooter 3.5
Pirates! Gold 4.5
Police Quest: In Pursuit of the Death Angel 3
Pool 'm Up 3
Populous 3 (I can't help it, I just hate it for some unknown reason)
Proliferation 5
Roll 'm up 3
Spellcasting 101 5
Super mario Land 4
Super metroid 4.5
super street fighter 2 4
tetris 4
the secret of monkey island 5.5
theme park 4
warlords 4
zombies ate my neighbours 5

BTW, what's up with the review of Blood 2? only one word appears in the preview-review text box.
And an idea: how about the viewing of more than 10 games per page?

In any case, such a system can only work if lots of (mathematical) thought has been put into it, and if the userbase which does vote is large enough. Neither is the case here, so I guess we'll just stick with the current system of letting people who contribute at least semi-regularly give out ratings to all the games they want. Only Tapuak and I are actually using this at the moment, of course, but it can only get better ;)

I agree. They have a more detailed system of presenting the ratings, though (in respect of the allocation of votes).

The ratings on IMDB, on the other hand, aren't all bad generally. At least for movies older than five years, they usually give a decent impression of the rough quality of a movie. For new, much-hyped movies, the system fails miserably, though.

True, most public ratings are not very significant. Take the ratings at Amazon for example. You hardly find an item that doesn't have 4 stars at least. Therefore it doesn't help to get an idea of the actual quality.

I'm not a huge fan of 'public ratings', because nothing ever comes out of it. People only vote if they either love or hate a game. The vast majority of people who are rather indifferent (swinging slightly to either side) can't be bothered.

What do you think about adding an "average rating"
bar based on user votes?
That would give a more or less "general public" kind of rating as well, even though it's kinda cliche-ish.

Sure, good idea, but where to put them exactly? Beside every number in the table? All below the table? One for every single example?

The text is just about right, but why not show a rating bar along side it? Put up bar (what it would look like) for every score. Well every rounded score.

Lengthy explanation
I just love to hear myself talk ;) Anyway, it's perfectly alright and enough just to read the bold table on top, no need for the examples.

Lengthy explanation, but it sure makes things clear. And you made the question mark big enough so some people will actually read this. :)

Maybe it would be better to make the bar large enough ranging from 0 to 6 but leaving the remaining part transparent?
