What do you think about Scientology anyway? Is it a religion? Is it serious? Is it even dangerous?

It's a religion, and the people in it think it is serious.

In the entry levels it is more like a 'normal' religion, be at peace with yourself etc..

As you pay to take more courses they introduce you slowly to crazier things. If you desire to reach the higher levels of 'peace' expect to spend a few million dollars.

When you get there you find out that the whole thing is about how a bunch of interplanetary beings got thrown into volcanoes then had thermonuclear bombs exploded on top of them to solve an overpopulation problem in the galaxy. The souls of these beings infest every human, and scientology is supposed to teach you how to banish these souls from your body so you can be clean.

Not a huge difference to Christianity, actually. That animated image is very convincing, though - there must be some secret truth behind it!

Yet another way to get money from the gullible. Also, one of the few "religions" without a proper internet site about their doctrines. It's always "buy this, buy that"

Actually, that's just consequential. If they gave all their "secrets" away for free, there'd be no need to take their courses, and that would mean less cash.


I don't think it's similar. Christianity is a theistic religion, Scientology isn't (as far as I know). Probably it's rather comparable to Buddhism. Scientology and Buddhism both presage certain ways to get "clean"/"wise" or whatever they call it. These ways are not ordered by a god, though.

Never claimed there's a relation in that way...
